12 Quilts of Christmas – Project #9 – Artsy Placemat

I love this file by 3DCuts.com – It’s only $1.59 and I think you can get a lot of use out of it. Make the 3D shadow box, use elements in a card or use it like we are going to – add some artsy elements to our Target Dollar Spot Placemat! (Got it for $3!) Bonus – The Silhouette Store has this same graphic so you can get it with your subscription dollars!

For this tutorial, I got out my paints and some fabric medium. For the birds, I cut out all of the shapes with white fabric prepared with Heat & Bond Lite. Put my pieces on a silicone craft mat and painted. I used red glitter HTV for the berries, silver for the Welcome. I tried something new and made a freezer paper stencil for the branch! It worked slick!

Some very simple thread sketching tacks everything down and gives the bird some texture. If you want to learn more about thread sketching – here is an awesome channel on youtube – Deborah Wirsu – Sorry for that black hole guys, but wow, is she talented and you’ll learn tons!!

(If you give this as a gift, I would make sure the recipient knows to hand wash and lay flat to dry!)

Here’s the tutorial – Go to 09:16 to skip ahead to Sure Cuts Alot Software if you want!

Wow, this is just what the Doc ordered during this crazy holiday time!
